RS Lesson - February 17

This week's Relief Society lesson will be on Chapter 3 from the Lorenzo Snow manual-- Lifelong Conversion: Continuing to Advance in the Principles of Truth. Our teacher for this lesson will be Morgan Heyland. She has requested that you read over the lesson and ponder on these questions:

1. Think back on your life. When/how did you gain a testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
2. President Snow said that gaining a testimony is "a very good starting point for a Latter-day Saint". Why is a testimony only a starting point--not a final destination?
3. What does it mean to become converted?

The best vacation I ever had was: The Caribbean cruise my husband and I went on two summers ago.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose? Hermoine Granger

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Sew

What chore do you absolutely hate doing? Cleaning the bathroom and emptying out the vacuum

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time? Blog/read blogs

What do you think is your very best feature or characteristic? I have been told my eyes

What is the "thing" you are most grateful for? My iPhone

What is your dream vacation? Trip to Europe (not backpacking...I want fancy hotels, people!)

What's the coolest thing you've ever done? Went skydiving in Hawaii

How did you meet your husband? How did he propose? We met in high school. He proposed at the Quarry in Provo while we were rock climbing. He went first and put the ring up on the very top, and popped the question when I came back down.

The best thing about being married is: Always having someone to hang out with and being able to be completely yourself.

What do you and your husband like to do together? Go out to eat, play with our baby, play games, watch our favorite TV shows
What would be your perfect day? Sleep in, have a big restaurant breakfast, go to an amusement park with no lines, come home and soak in the hot tub while eating cheesecake and skittles. (with my family of course)
What was the best advice you got/would give on marriage? Marriage takes work, service, and compromise.

What story does your family always tell about you? There is a family home video my family also quotes me from. I was about 8, and we were playing the game Don't Eat Pete. My little brother was doing really well, and I said "He's really sharp at this game!"

Lesson Recap: Brethren, We Have Work to Do

This Sunday's lesson was taught by Ashley Wood on the talk Brethren, We Have Work to Do by Elder  D. Todd. Christofferson. What a great lesson, and a great topic for further thought! It's always refreshing to hear positive things about the men in our lives, and I gain a new appreciation for the hard work and dedication they show to us as wives and mothers.

Pursuing Excellence

Hey ladies! We have something exciting coming up this week! This Thursday will be our next activity, entitled "Pursuing Excellence: Making and Keeping Personal Goals." It will be held at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Building here in Wymount.

I'm excited to learn better methods for keeping my own goals... I may have already blown it on a New Year's resolution or two! :)

Please come, and invite other sisters in the ward to attend too, especially those who are new! This will be a great way for us to get to know each other better and become stronger as a Relief Society.

Welcome Back!

A big welcome back to everyone from the holidays and vacation, and a big WELCOME to the new sisters in our ward! We hope you had a Merry Christmas and your New Year is going well so far, and that you have enjoyed being able to spend time with family and friends.

RS Activity: Cookie Swap!

We had a great time at tonight’s activity, a Relief Society cookie swap. There were LOTS of yummy cookies to try and each of us left with a plateful of Christmas treats. It was certainly a nice break from finals and other wintertime stresses!

We also got to make cute Christmas cards and chat with each other. What a perfect evening!

If you weren’t able to make it tonight, we hope you’ll be able to next time!

Lesson Recap: Children by Neil L. Andersen

This past Sunday, we had a great lesson by Mary Harris on the talk “Children” by Neil L. Andersen from the October 2011 General Conference. Here are some highlights from the lesson and our class discussion:

• The commandment to multiply and replenish the earth is still in force.
• Children need to come to earth.
• Mothers and fathers have distinct roles in the raising of their children.
• The decision on when to have children, how many, etc. is between the husband and wife and the Lord.
• Motherhood is a calling.
• Those who cannot enjoy blessings of parenthood on earth will enjoy all of these blessings in the eternities.
• We need to trust in the Lord’s timing, and remember his plan for us the best and will make us happiest.
• Be open to the answers to prayers we receive. This helps remove fear.
• Fasting and attending the temple are good ways to receive revelation.
• We must be united with our spouse.
